Wythe County is prepared for industries on the move with a superior highway system. Interstates 77 and 81 intersect here and U.S. Routes 11, 21 and 52 also serve the county and its industry. The future route of I-74 in Virginia will traverse Wythe County.

Over two dozen trucking companies provide interstate and intrastate service to industry in Wythe County. Many of them have terminals here. "Transportation here is excellent. It enables us to respond quickly to our customers' needs, " said a manager at a major manufacturing plant in the county. Rail

The Norfolk Southern Shenandoah line runs through Wythe County carrying bulk, mixed freight, and containerized cargo (piggybacked). A spur into Progress Park provides rail service to most lots in the southern half of the park.

Airports

General aviation services are provided locally by the Mountain Empire Airport. Its 5,250 foot asphalt runway provides a convenient landing area for corporate jets.

Commercial flights at various regional airports within 1-2 hours of Wytheville connect with major hubs across the country and around the world.
