The
Town of Wytheville has a 4 MGD water plant that serves
Progress Park as well as the Town of Wytheville. A new 4 MGD
water plant (expandable to 10 MGD) began operation on the
New River in early 2009 to serve additional water needs of
Wythe and Carroll counties and the Town of Wytheville. Two
16" water lines serve Progress Park from the north and the
south providing redundant service to park tenants.
In 2004, the Town of Wytheville received the National Rural
Water Association's
award for the best tasting water in the nation. Contact
us for site-specific fire flow calculations. Wastewater
The Town of Wytheville has a 4 MGD activated sludge

Electrical
Progress Park is served by a new 90-MW sub-station (with capacity added in 30 MW increments) fed by independent 138-kV lines
offering redundant service to the park. A second service
line can be
provided from the Wythe substation in Wytheville to Progress
Park for special situations requiring such redundancy.
Additionally, a second 765-kV high voltage interstate
transmission line was recently completed to the regional
Jacksons Ferry substation in Wythe County further
strengthening the infrastructure grid of the region.
Appalachian Power Company, a unit of American Electric
Power, is the local electrical service provider.
Natural Gas
Progress Park has three high-pressure interstate gas
transmission lines (including one 24" diameter) located adjacent to
the park. There is an in-park pressure reduction substation
with multiple feeds to serve the needs of Progress Park. Internal steel and/or
plastic distribution lines serves specific needs of the park
tenants. Both interruptible and non-interruptible service is
available through
Atmos Energy.
Telecommunications
Progress Park has the potential for fiber optic service
by three independent service providers. Incumbent
and high speed internet telecommunication service is provided by
Embarq.
Additionally,
Citizens coop has a broadband point-of-presence in
Progress Park with additional capacity provided by a new
BVU-OptiNet loop from the west, offering yet another
option for high-capacity service.
Transportation
Wytheville is located at the intersection of I-77 and I-81.
The main Shenandoah line of Norfolk Southern Railway
provides Class-1 rail service. Several regional commercial
airports plus two local general aviation airports serve the
community. For more information on transportation
